Section 1
During my Level 3 music Performance course I have progressed towards my pathway in many different ways. As a guitarist I have progressed well with my Sage lessons and ensemble. This year I have also gained lots of versatility as a musician by pursuing experience in drums and bass guitar in extra-curricular lessons at the sage. I believe this will allow me to create a better vision of what I want my songs to sound like as a solo artist as I can add extra layers that previously I would ask others for input with. On my chosen instrument however, I have furthered myself into new genres and styles of playing as shown in my performance of Cavatina by Stanley Myers. This is important to my pathway as it means I am more employable as a guitarist because I can play a wider variety of music. I do however, still prefer to play and compose music around the styles of artists I admire the most such as Paolo Nutini, Liam Fray and Sam Fender. Eventually, my goal as a musician is to become a solo artist successful enough to where I can quit my normal job and play full time as a solo musician or recording artist; however if this does not happen I will have, atleast, gained lots of transferable skills to show for in whichever industry I end up in as a working adult.
Section 2
For research I have had many conversations with tutors throughout the academic year and have gained insight on topics like music theory, punctuality and appearance as a musician. These conversations have helped drastically as a large part of growing as a musician in the modern day is through clever use of social media.
Section 3
One problem I constantly face as a musician is my adversity to music theory. As although I am aware of the benefits of learning this, I still seem to find myself avoiding it in any capacity. My way of solving this problem although not ideal has been to find my own way to progress with topics such as chord theory practically by learning their shapes and using them in demanding songs so that I can begin to play them without thinking.
Section 4
Another problem I have faced this year is my avoidance of all written work until the last minute. This has been an issue along all of my education and to force myself to work I split my practices into sessions. first I will do fifteen minutes of written work and then play 20 minutes of guitar to further myself or learn new material.
Section 5
For planning I will be updating my Online Diary on a week to week basis to show what my plans are and if/when they have changed. Using an online diary allows me to add digital media to show and back up what I am doing each week in college.
Section 6
We have been building towards our end of year gigs at the cluny and riverside venues in our ensemble lessons this year. This is our opportunity to show the practical side of our music during the course and also shows how we can play as a band and listen to one another during a performance. We will be performing in front of a large crowd in a high capacity venue. This will also show how we can handle performing under pressure.
